2012 Race Report
A big thank you must go to all runners, helpers and sponsors of the Wingerworth Wobble 2012. The weather was warm and sunny (some may say too warm!) and the going good to firm with the occasional tree root.
All race results can be viewed on the Race Results page.
The winning male, Pete Hodges in a time of 30:13 was followed by Colin Davenport in 2nd place 31:20 (cheered on by his own fan team) and then 3rd was Shaun Martin 31:42. They all looked to breeze up the final hill without changing pace. I have images of doing this when running the course but in practice never quite manage it! The winning lady was Deborah Lock in a time of 39:09 with Lynn Kelly in 2nd in a time of 39:25 and Samantha Iliffe in 3rd in a time of 39:40 – a closely fought race for the top three ladies all finishing in 1 minute of each other.
The 1st local male (Wingerworth resident) was Andrew Greening in a time of 35:00 minutes. He must have too much energy as was spotted running the following morning at 8 am looking far too sprightly! Andrew was followed by the next local male, Tim Elkington in a time of 36:02.
The 1st local lady went to Beth Greening (matching his and hers trophies in the Greening household!) in a time of 47:19 and followed closely by the 2nd local female Lucy Bacon in a time of 47:35.
Jim Titterton won the Oldest Wingerworth Wobbler trophy in a great time of 49:42. We had planned an open top bus to tour the village for Jim to display his trophy on a victory lap, but ever gracious he walked home with the trophy hidden under his T-shirt!
I am pleased to announce that we raised a total of £700 for Ashgate Hospice and Deer Park School PTA. Due to all our generous sponsors (listed below) every single penny raised from the entries, catering, raffle and of course direct donations generously given on the entry forms has gone to this total.

Being supported by a great team makes the organising process a lot easier. A huge thanks need to go to the amazing Wingerworth Wobblers who all pitched in to help, family, friends and colleagues. You may not have needed them yesterday but we had medical cover from 2 GP’s, 3 Physiotherapists, 2 nurses and the St john’s. Mr Soar and the PTA (Jayne and Cath on the day) kindly gave up their Saturday and allowed us to use the school premises. Thank you to Elaine and David Selkirk for marshaling, sponsoring the local lady trophy and also thanks to Elaine for presenting the trophies. We have a few learning points for next year to make the race experience even better, several runners have already contacted me with thanks and great feedback – your views would be more than welcome, keep them coming in.
Watch this space for photo’s which will be added later as they are sent to me. The plan is to run the Wingerworth Wobble again next year so please bookmark our site and check for details.
Thanks again to all for going along with my schemes and ideas!
